Welcome to CEMPOS

The Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring and Seafood Safety (CEMPOS) was established at the University of Port Harcourt in April 2009 as a Research Centre for the implementation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Technical Cooperation projects on the environment with emphasis on marine pollution monitoring. The projects are jointly supported by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and IAEA. The Centre’s operation includes; Research, teaching, pollution and seafood safety monitoring, capacity development, and information dissemination. Its programmes are centered on the conservation, protection, and management of our aquatic resources.

Our Philosophy

CEMPOS provides an excellent training opportunity for scientists willing to explore the scientific basis of environmental pollution and practical approaches to its control. The Programmes are based on the philosophy of training graduates with the knowledge on scientific principles that underpin 20th-century environmental pollution issues. Postgraduate programmes in Environmental Pollution Studies at CEMPOS are designed to provide applied skills as well as specialized problem-solving and critical thinking skills, for tackling environmental and sustainability issues. CEMPOS is managed by a team of active, world-class academic experts from multidisciplinary backgrounds.
