About Us

The Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring and Seafood Safety (CEMPOS) was established at the University of Port Harcourt in April 2009 as a Research Centre for the implementation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Technical Cooperation projects on the environment with emphasis on marine pollution monitoring. The projects are jointly supported by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and IAEA. The Centre’s operation includes; Research, teaching, pollution and seafood safety monitoring, capacity development, and information dissemination. Its programmes are centered on the conservation, protection, and management of our aquatic resources.

The University of Port Harcourt also known as Uniport is a citadel of academic excellence for the advancement of knowledge and community service through quality teaching, life-long learning, social inclusion, strengthening civil society and policy-relevant research that addresses the challenges of contemporary society. To achieve this mission, the University is guided by the spirit of enquiry, self-reliance, fairness, and ethical and professional standards of the disciplines.
