Dr. Kingsley Chukwuemeka Patrick-Iwuanyanwu

Dr. KC PatrickDr. Kingsley Chukwuemeka Patrick-Iwuanyanwu is an Associate Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry /Toxicology. He is a scholar of the prestigious Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA in Analyzing risk: Principles, concepts and applications. Dr. Patrick-Iwuanyanwu is a recipient of The World Academy of Science- International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (TWAS-ICCBS) PhD Fellowship award in 2009 to University of Karachi, Pakistan; He was among the selected 100 young scientists from around the world to attend The World Life Sciences Forum by BioVision (Lyon, France); He is a recipient of Society of Toxicology (SOT) /AstraZenecca IUTOX fellowship award in 2009; He is a member of the class of 2010 BioVision Alexandria.Nxt fellows in Alexandria, Egypt. He served as a Pioneer African representative and one of the founding Executive Members of Student Advisory Council (SAC) of Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC, EUROPE) from 2009-2011. He was also a pioneer member of the Scientific Organizing Committee of the SETAC EUROPE-sponsored 1st Young Environmental Scientists (YES) meeting at the University of Landau, Germany.

He is an Awardee of several Research Fellowship training organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in several areas of seafood safety including: Regional Training Course on Sampling Strategy PSP & CFP Toxin Extraction Techniques, RBA Demonstration and Data Analysis (C7-RAF-7.014-002/16.  IAEA/KMFRI; Mombasa, Kenya (2016); Regional Training Course on Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB): Biotoxin extraction and Ciguatoxin Analysis in Marine Food using Radioligand-Receptor Binding Assay (r-RBA), Agadir and Rabat, Morocco (2019).

Dr. Patrick-Iwuanyanwu is an author of several cited publications in peer–reviewed journals with research interests in the areas of Food safety, Risk assessments of toxicants and environmental pollutants in the food chain, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) surveys, Risk Assessment of hydrocarbon contamination and water soluble fraction of petroleum products and Exposure to contaminants and toxicological response of organisms at multiple tiers of biological organization (using experimental animal models) with a view to monitoring the source, fate, transport, and toxicity of contaminants. At the moment he is the Secretary General of West African Society of Toxicology (WASOT) and also serves as the Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) officer/ Academic programme coordinator of World Bank African Center of Excellence for Public Health and Toxicological Research (ACE-PUTOR), University of Port Harcourt. He is a mentor to many young early career toxicologists.

His area of Specialization includes: Environmental Microbiology, Ecotoxicology, Impact Assessment, Environmental Monitoring and Remediation, Biodeterioration Assessment and Control, Bioindicator Development

Professor Orish Ebere Orisakwe

Head, Seafood & Allied Food Safety/ Research Team

OrishProfessor Orish Ebere Orisakwe holds a PhD in Pharmacology & Toxicology of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and his postdoctoral training in Health Canada. Author of over 300 publications, is the first Nigerian, European Registered Toxicologist ERT and the first African, Fellow of Academy of Toxicological Sciences ATS, USA. First African Speaker, Global Summit on Regulatory Science – Emerging Technologies for Food and Drug Safety (GSRS17), Brasilia, Brazil, September 18-20, 2017. He was Coordinator of the African Society of Toxicological Sciences in Nigeria and presently one of the foundation mentors and foundation President of West Africa Society of Toxicology and an advisor of the Cameroon Society of Toxicological Sciences. He has served as a Visiting Professor to some universities in both Europe and the USA including developing programs in Global Health. Orish serves in the Editorial and Review boards of many PUBMED cited journals in USA and Europe. He is cited in many ‘’who is who’’ and several biographical reference listings in Environmental Toxicology, Public health and Risk Assessment. He is a scientific expert of the Joint FAO/WHO Committee on Food Additives, scientific expert for the World Health Organization WHO guideline development group – nutrition actions. He is a scientific expert/consultant, Review of EFSA-FAO-WHO Developing a technical Guidance for Total Diet Study in Developing countries and consultant to International Council for Science (ICSU). Prof Orish is the first African to win the SOT Global Senior Scholar Exchange Program Award and a Visiting Scientist in US FDA. In 2012, with the help of his collaborators from both Europe and North America, he mounted the first MSc/PhD Toxicology program (University of Port Harcourt) as a stand-alone discipline in Africa. Professor Chimezie Jason Ogugbue

ChimezieProfessor C.J. Ogugbue is a Professor of Environmental Microbiology in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, University of Port Harcourt. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in Environmental Microbiology at the University of Port Harcourt in 2005 and had his post-doctoral fellowship trainings at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece (Coimbra Group Europe) and the Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia (TWAS-USM). Prof. Ogugbue’s research interests include; biodegradation and ecotoxicity of pollutants/xenobiotic compounds, wastewater treatment, influence of microbial inoculants on tropical plants, microbial fuel cells, etc. He is a member of various professional bodies including the Nigerian Society for Microbiology, American Society for Microbiology, Society for Applied Microbiology, Nigerian Environmental Society and the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology. He has been a long-standing member of the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Society for Microbiology and is currently the Legal Adviser of the Society. Prof. Ogugbue has over 75 publications in peer-reviewed journals and over 30 papers presented in various conferences in and outside Nigeria. He is one of the authors of a foremost 837-paged General Microbiology text (Principles of General Microbiology) published in Nigeria and four other books.  In 2021, he was listed in the Africa Scientist and University Rankings as one of the leading Scientists in Africa (AD Scientific Index). His Ph.D Thesis was nominated by the University of Port Harcourt in 2006 for the National Universities Commission Best Ph.D Dissertation Award. He is a recipient of three fellowship awards and several grants. Over the years, he has supervised over ten Ph.D students and several M.Sc. and PGD students. He is a Consultant Microbiologist to many companies where he had been part of several Bioremediation, Environmental Impact Assessment, Post Impact Assessment, Environmental Audit and Environmental Evaluation Studies. He has also served the University in various capacities including: Acting Head, Department of Microbiology; Associate Dean, School of Science Laboratory Technology; Coordinator, Microbiology Technology, School of Science Laboratory Technology; Member, Convocation Planning Committee and many others. He is an External Examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in two universities and has also served as an External Assessor of professorial candidates in two federal universities.  He was an Editor of the Faculty of Science Journal (Scientia Africana), Associate Editor of the Nigerian Journal of Microbiology (a flagship journal of the Nigerian Society for Microbiology) and currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Environmental Studies Journal; an office bestowed on him due to his wealth of experience in environmental pollution issues. He also had a stint as the Team Leader/Advisor: Research group on seafood safety and risk assessment, IAEA-University of Port Harcourt joint venture. He is presently the Academic Coordinator, Center for Marine Pollution Monitoring and Seafood Safety (CEMPOS) and one of the resource persons in the Center.

Mr. Ogbonda Ibekwe Eleazar

Ibekwe EleazarMr. Ogbonda Ibekwe Eleazar is a seasoned staff of Uniport, who loves orderliness in everything he does. He had his first degree in Economics at University of Port Harcourt. He is a Deputy Registrar, University of Port Harcourt and the Head of Administration in the Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring and Seafood Safety, University of Port Harcourt.

 

Mrs. Egbuatu Maureen

Technologist

MaureenMrs. Egbuatu Maureen is a native of Amimo Akuma in Imo State. She is a technologist at the center of marine pollution monitoring and seafood safety, University of Port Harcourt. She obtained her O’level at Laurels Academy in Lagos State. She also holds a National Diploma (OND) and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in marine Engineering from the Department of Engineering, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Akwa Ibom State. Mrs. Maureen is a member of the National Association of Academic Technologies. She is married with a child.

Mrs. Ohiri Miracle Chidinma

Secretary to the Director

OhiriMrs. Ohiri Miracle Chidinma is a hardworking staff of Uniport that has interest on interacting with students and counseling them where necessary.

She obtained the following qualifications:

Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Secretarial Administration and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Secretarial Administration at Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri Imo State, Nigeria.

Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Finance and Banking and Master of Science (MSc) in Finance and Banking at the University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt Rivers State, Nigeria.

Currently, she is occupying the position of secretary to the Director, Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring and Seafood Safety, Uniport.

Mr. Anthony Ndubuisi Wugo

Chief Accountant, School of Science Laboratory Technology and Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring and safety and Seafood Safety

AnthonyAnthony N. Wugo is an indegene of Elele Alimini in Emolhua Local Government Area of Rivers State. He was born into the family of Late Elder Patrick Ikechi Wugo and Mrs. Caroline Adanwo Wugo in omuadi village of Elele Alimini. Anthony N. Wugo began his academic pursuit at state school 2 Elele Alimini where he obtained his first school leaving certificate in 1981. He also had secondary school education at Sacred Heart Seminary Rumuibekwe, Port-Harcourt.

In 1997, Tony as fondly known obtained University Degree (BSc) in accounting at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). The compulsory National assignment took him to Ogun State where he served at Gate Way Hotel Ijebu-ode from 1998-1999. The experience from NYSC at the five star hotel paid off when he was employed in 2002 as finance manager/supervisor at the university of Port Harcourt senior staff club.

Due to financial prudence and impeccable track record, he was recommended to take up pensionable appointment with the Bursary department of University of Port Harcourt. In 2008, he worked conscientiously with the finance office of college of Health Science under the headship of Mr. J.O Ebulu of the Blessed Memory. He was elevated to the office of finance officer in 2009 where he served at the Faculty of Agriculture from 2009 to 30th November, 2015.  In 2016, he was posted to head the finance office of the School of Science Laboratory Technology and Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring and safety and Seafood Safety, Currently he is a chief Accountant in charge the two centers mentioned above.

Religion: Tony is a Christian of the Catholic Faith. He avoids unholy associations. He is married and blessed with children. He is a gentleman per excellence. Mr. Anthony is an inducted member of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria.
